According to a report from "L’Echo," confirmed by the Dilliès cabinet, Moustapha Budchich, the current chief of staff for Minister Ahmed Laaouej (PS), has been appointed as the "Economic Representative of the Brussels-Capital Region in the Kingdom of Morocco" for a five-year term starting September 1. This information has been validated by sources at the Soir, and underlines a strategic move by the region as it continues to strengthen its economic ties with Morocco, regarded as a priority market in its international economic strategy.
Despite the impending closure of several Brussels economic representation offices due to budgetary constraints, which poses a significant challenge for hub.brussels, the organization overseeing Brussels’ foreign trade, the Rabat office will receive enhancements in its operational capacity. The regional government is committed to bolstering the budget for the Rabat office, where Budchich will be tasked with devising a new strategy aimed at enhancing Brussels' presence in Morocco.
Unlike other Brussels representatives stationed abroad, Budchich’s appointment was made outside of a standard recruitment process and is described as a governmental designation for a specific representation mission, as clarified by the Minister-President's cabinet. This appointment is notable as Budchich's position will be classified at A5 level, equivalent to a general management level within the regional administration, with an annual gross salary ranging from €115,000 to €150,000.
