New Investigation Launched into the Disappearance of Clément Besneville Two Years Later

New Developments in Clément Besneville's Disappearance Case

Clément Besneville, a French national who went missing in Rabat, Morocco, on April 10, 2024, has sparked renewed interest in his case two years later. The public prosecutor's office in Melun has officially opened a judicial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, focusing specifically on the possibility of kidnapping and unlawful confinement. This decision follows a formal complaint filed by Besneville's parents with the investigating magistrate in Melun, as announced by Jean-Michel Bourlès, the public prosecutor. In a conversation with the press, Clément's father, Didier Besneville, expressed a sense of relief that French authorities continue to pursue the case, stating, "It has been two years since our son disappeared… We are terribly anxious; I can hardly find the words to describe our distress."

Background of the Case

Clément, who also held Spanish nationality, had relocated to a seaside apartment in Rabat with plans to open a pizzeria. He was set to sign a lease on April 15, 2024, but abruptly ceased all communication shortly before that date. His family officially reported him missing to the local gendarmerie in Cély-en-Bière, Seine-et-Marne, on April 25, 2024. The case was subsequently referred to both French and Moroccan authorities. According to a commissioner from the regional judicial police in Rabat, Clément was last seen around 10:30 PM on April 10, and an investigation was immediately initiated. Upon searching his apartment, authorities discovered all of his personal belongings, including identification documents, a laptop, a mobile phone, cash, and glasses, but no sign of Clément himself.

In the days leading up to the recent judicial inquiry, Clément's parents traveled to Rabat, where they met with police officials who assured them that the investigation was ongoing and that all avenues were being explored. Notably, a preliminary investigation had previously been launched by France's anti-terrorism prosecutor's office in December 2025, illustrating the complexity and seriousness of the case.
