Official Announcement from the Ministry of Awqaf Regarding Eid al-Fitr 2026 in Morocco
On the evening of March 19, 2026, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs of Morocco officially declared the date for Eid al-Fitr in 2026. The Ministry confirmed the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, which indicates that Friday, March 20, 2026, will mark the first day of Eid al-Fitr, corresponding to the 1st of Shawwal in the year 1447 AH.
The announcement was made following the observation of the crescent moon after sunset on Thursday, March 19, and the Ministry communicated with all representatives of Islamic affairs across the kingdom as well as units of the Royal Armed Forces involved in moon sighting, all of whom confirmed the sighting. Consequently, citizens were informed that the first day of Eid al-Fitr would indeed be Friday, March 20, 2026.
In light of this holiday, employees in both the public and private sectors will enjoy a four-day holiday starting on Saturday and continuing through Monday. This announcement aligns with similar declarations made by ten other Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Yemen, Palestine, Sudan, Lebanon, and Iraq, all of which confirmed that Friday will be the first day of Eid al-Fitr. Additionally, Egypt, Jordan, Oman, and Syria also announced the same following the sighting of the moon.
The Ecopress team extends warm wishes to all readers and visitors on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, hoping for a joyous celebration for the Moroccan people both within the country and abroad. May this Eid bring happiness and prosperity to everyone.
