HEM International University Officially Launches in Casablanca
The official inauguration of HEM International University took place in Casablanca, featuring a roundtable discussion focused on the institution's vision, academic model, and ambitions. The event was attended by notable figures, including Abdellatif Maâzouz, the President of the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council.
HEM International University is supported by a governance structure that includes LCI Education, CDG Invest—an investment subsidiary of the CDG Group—and Averroes Holding. The university is also managed by a general director, a dean, and a strategic and scientific council comprising distinguished personalities from academic, economic, and institutional backgrounds.
Younes Slaoui, Chairman of the Board of Directors of HEM International University, emphasized the significance of HEM's transition to university status, stating, "This advancement opens up new and ambitious opportunities for us. It is not merely about expanding our offerings through various schools but actively contributing to the development of higher education in Morocco and supporting the profound transformations in skills and professions."
Enhancing Skills for Morocco's Growing Economy
This new configuration aims to address the increasing demand for skills within the Moroccan economy while fostering its international development. HEM International University benefits from its affiliation with LCI Education, a global network present across five continents, boasting more than 20,000 students.
The academic offerings are centered around several key areas: the Business School, located in Casablanca and Rabat, the Averroes Engineering School, a Faculty of Law, and an Executive Education program. The programs have been designed with a strong emphasis on professionalization and employability, incorporating co-construction of training with businesses, development of work-study opportunities, and the enhancement of professional experiences throughout the academic journey.
Bouchra By, the General Director of HEM International University, articulated the institution's commitment to providing training that directly meets labor market needs. She stated, "Our ambition is to offer programs that align closely with market demands. Proximity to businesses, their involvement in program design, and the development of work-study schemes are essential pillars of our model."
Internationalization is also a critical strategic focus for HEM International University. The institution plans to further enhance student mobility, establish international academic partnerships, and develop pathways leading to dual degrees. This initiative builds upon the longstanding academic collaborations that HEM has nurtured over the years, including a joint MBA with Paris Dauphine-PSL University and IAE Paris-Sorbonne, which is celebrating 25 years of cooperation and has supported over 800 executives, leaders, and entrepreneurs in Morocco and Africa.
Research plays a central role in the university's mission. Led by Driss Ksikes, the HEM Research Center aims to produce and disseminate research focused on the significant economic and social transformations in Morocco and Africa, promoting exchanges among researchers, businesses, institutions, and civil society.
Through this transformation, HEM International University reinforces its ambition to nurture the talent necessary for Morocco and Africa, support innovation and knowledge production, and contribute to the academic prestige of the Kingdom on the international stage.
The launch concluded with a roundtable discussion titled "Training the Talents Morocco Needs," bringing together various professionals to address the key challenges of transforming the national economy, including economic sovereignty, value creation in communities, evolving professions, and adapting educational programs to labor market needs.
