Inauguration of the New Hunting Season in Morocco
On October 2, 2026, the National Agency for Water and Forests, in collaboration with the Royal Moroccan Hunting Federation, officially inaugurated the 2026-2027 hunting season in Marrakech. The event was marked by a study day and awareness campaign themed "Tourist Hunting in Morocco: A Natural Wealth and Sustainable Development," which brought together officials, professionals, and stakeholders from the hunting sector.
Abdel Rahim Houmi, the Director General of the National Agency for Water and Forests, highlighted that the previous season attracted over 65,000 Moroccan hunters and around 5,000 tourist hunters. He noted a significant increase in the number of hunting areas leased, rising from 1,278 during the 2020-2021 season to 1,737 in the 2025-2026 season. Similarly, the leased area expanded from 3.35 million hectares to approximately 4.39 million hectares.
This momentum is part of the national strategy "Forests of Morocco 2020-2030," which focuses on the sustainable management of hunting resources, enhancing partnerships in training hunters, combating illegal hunting, and protecting biodiversity. The meeting underscored the evolution of tourist hunting in Morocco, supported by 146 specialized companies, and showcased the potential of the Marrakech-Safi region as a driver for valuing natural and rural areas while stimulating the local economy.
The agenda also included the presentation of the book "Gibiers emblématiques du Maroc" and hands-on workshops on tourist hunting and bow hunting, along with a site visit to one of the leased hunting areas. At the conclusion of the event, the agency and the Royal Moroccan Hunting Federation reaffirmed their commitment to developing responsible, ethical, and safe hunting practices, emphasizing the need to enhance sector governance while balancing the exploitation of hunting resources with the preservation of natural heritage and biodiversity for future generations.
