Rabat Welcomes Hispanic Literature at the International Book and Publishing Fair

Hispanic Literature Takes Center Stage in Rabat

The 31st edition of the International Book and Publishing Fair (SIEL) in Rabat is set to showcase the vibrant world of Hispanic literature from April 30 to May 10, 2026. This significant cultural event will feature a diverse array of activities, including book presentations, discussions, storytelling sessions, round tables, and artistic performances, all designed to celebrate the richness of Hispanic literary creation.

A Celebration of Language and Culture

Spain, along with other nations, will actively participate in this year's fair, with a program organized by the Spanish Embassy in Morocco in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute of Rabat. This collaboration illustrates a strong commitment to promoting the Spanish language and literature within Morocco. Attendees will enjoy an immersive experience that highlights the beauty of the Spanish language through various activities, such as introductory Spanish workshops and debates, many of which will include simultaneous translation.

Moreover, Spain will host a joint pavilion with other Ibero-American embassies, emphasizing the shared cultural space and the promotion of Spanish-language culture. Notably, Rabat's designation as UNESCO's World Book Capital for 2026 adds a layer of significance to the event, recognizing the city's dedication to literature, reading promotion, and editorial development.

The program will also benefit from partnerships with other Spanish institutions, including Casa Mediterráneo and the Three Cultures Foundation of the Mediterranean. The Spanish Ambassador to Morocco, Enrique Ojeda Vila, emphasized that Spain's participation in SIEL 2026 reflects its ongoing commitment to advancing the Spanish language through literature, publishing, reading, and cultural dialogue in Morocco.

A highlight of the fair will be the participation of renowned Spanish philologist and author Irene Vallejo, who is celebrated for her book _Infinity in a Reed_, translated into over thirty languages and awarded the National Essay Prize. Her presence in Rabat, coinciding with the Arabic translation of her work, promises to be a pivotal moment in the program, symbolizing the dialogue between cultural traditions.
