Royal Air Maroc Expands Its Fleet with New Boeing Dreamliner
Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is set to enhance its fleet with the arrival of a new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, registered as CN-RHV, which is expected to be delivered by the end of July 2026. This new addition will bring the total number of Boeing 787-8 aircraft in RAM's fleet to thirteen, contributing to an overall fleet of sixty-eight planes. This strategic acquisition aligns with RAM's ongoing expansion plans and commitment to modernizing its operations.
The delivery of this Dreamliner follows the successful receipt of another Boeing 787-8 on April 10, 2026, marking a consistent pattern of growth for the airline. RAM aims to maintain this momentum, with plans to further increase its fleet to seventy-four aircraft by the end of 2026 and eighty-eight by the year 2027. This ambitious expansion is accompanied by the launch of approximately twenty new direct routes connecting Morocco with major economic and tourist hubs, including cities like Beijing, São Paulo, Los Angeles, Saint Petersburg, Manchester, and N’Djamena.
Future Plans and Acquisitions for Royal Air Maroc
RAM's strategic development plan entails integrating an average of ten to fifteen new aircraft annually, each undergoing a rigorous technical evaluation to ensure compliance with international standards and the airline's operational requirements, as explained by Oussama El Farisi, Head of Engineering at RAM. Furthermore, in July 2023, the national carrier signed a program contract with the state to quadruple its fleet to reach two hundred aircraft by 2037, which includes a tender for one hundred eighty-eight new aircraft.
According to Bloomberg, sources close to the negotiations indicate that RAM is considering the acquisition of around twenty Boeing 787 Dreamliners for long-haul operations, alongside plans to procure up to fifty Boeing 737s for short-haul flights and approximately twenty Airbus A220s for regional services. In addition to Boeing and Airbus, RAM is exploring options with other manufacturers, including the Franco-Italian ATR and Brazilian Embraer, with initial deliveries anticipated to commence in 2028.
