This action is in direct response to his ongoing arbitrary detention by the Moroccan authorities, despite a definitive ruling from the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention demanding his release and compensation for the duration of his imprisonment.
Ahmed Sebai's hunger strike is a powerful protest against the Moroccan occupation's blatant indifference to his legitimate demands, which prominently include the right to adequate medical care, improved living conditions within the prison, and a transfer to a facility located in Western Sahara to facilitate family visits. The Sahrawi League emphasizes that such neglect exemplifies a broader pattern of systematic retaliation against Sahrawi prisoners by the Moroccan state, which continues to disregard its obligations as outlined in various United Nations resolutions, especially the recommendations issued by the UN Committee against Torture.
