Senegal Takes Center Stage at Gitex Morocco 2026

The vibrant landscape of technological innovation in Africa and beyond converged in Marrakech from April 7 to 9 for the fourth edition of Gitex Africa. This year's theme, "Catalyzing Africa's Digital Economy in the Era of Artificial Intelligence," attracted over 1,400 exhibitors from more than 130 countries globally. Beyond showcasing cutting-edge technology solutions, Gitex Africa Morocco recognized the continent's most remarkable projects through the "Cyber & AI Achiever Awards." This eagerly anticipated competition garnered over 7,300 submissions, ultimately awarding four startups. Among them, a Senegalese company, Art’Beau-Rescence, distinguished itself by winning the accolade for "Best Young Company in Artificial Intelligence." Founded in 2022, the startup gained recognition for its product, Ai-Karangué, an advanced technology solution designed to enhance road safety and fleet management in Senegal. According to Mouhamadou Sarr, the commercial director of Art’Beau-Rescence, the startup's award was attributed to the real-time data provided by their product and its tangible, measurable impact, as Ai-Karangué has progressed beyond the testing phase and is actively utilized today.

A Call to Action for Local Authorities

This recognition in Marrakech seems to be bearing fruit for the startup. As noted by its representatives, Ai-Karangué is poised for expansion not only in Morocco but also in neighboring regions within transportation companies. However, this growth is tinged with disappointment as Dakar Dem Dikk has yet to engage with their solution. "We do not beg; we simply ask that local innovation be recognized before it receives continental awards and accolades. We urge stakeholders in mobility, transport, and road safety to ensure that local players benefit from Ai-Karangué before foreign entities do," Sarr expressed. Ai-Karangué has previously garnered accolades, including first prize at the inaugural Govathon in 2024. However, the company has reported receiving no support from any institution, aside from the hackathons it has won. This highlights the ongoing challenges faced by local startups in securing recognition and support in their home markets.
