Milagros Tolón, Spain's Minister of Sports, expressed the country's strong intentions during an interview with the Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, stating, "We will continue to work towards this goal because we want – and it must be – that the World Cup final is held in Spain." This statement comes as a response to a now-refuted report from the British newspaper 'The Times', which claimed that the controversial FIFA President Gianni Infantino had promised Morocco the final in exchange for support in his reelection bid scheduled for March 2027.

Spain's Strong Case for Hosting the Final

Minister Tolón expressed her conviction that the FIFA would ultimately select Spain as the host for the final match. She highlighted Spain's status as the reigning world champion in both men's and women's football, emphasizing the country's significant sporting stature. Moreover, Tolón pointed out Spain's vast experience in organizing major sporting and cultural events, combined with its modern infrastructure and secure environment, making it an ideal candidate for hosting the final. Notably, the final could be held at either the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium of Real Madrid or the famous Camp Nou of FC Barcelona.

In the report by 'The Times', it was suggested that Infantino intended for the final to take place at the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca, which is currently under construction and has a capacity of 115,000 seats. Such a plan would be seen as an affront to Spain and Europe, particularly given the recent backlash against Infantino following a controversial and ultimately discarded investor deal.
