On Tuesday, the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) hosted the inaugural meeting of the Moroccan-Kazakh Business Council, marking a significant step forward in enhancing economic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Kazakhstan. This event, presided over by CGEM President Mehdi Tazi, was attended by Kazakhstan's Deputy Foreign Minister, Alibek Kuantyrov, alongside a substantial delegation comprising institutional stakeholders and business leaders from both nations.
In his opening remarks, Tazi emphasized that this first session is more than just the launch of a new cooperation body; it establishes a permanent framework for dialogue between the business communities of the two countries. He noted that trade exchanges between Morocco and Kazakhstan have surged by 68% since 2021, surpassing $460 million, illustrating the untapped potential for collaboration that still exists.
The CGEM President highlighted the complementary nature of both economies, particularly in sectors such as fertilizers, agriculture, logistics, infrastructure, energy, the digital realm, and artificial intelligence. He underscored Morocco's strategic qualifications as a gateway to African and European markets, while also acknowledging Kazakhstan's role as a bridge to Central Asia, calling for the establishment of a tangible economic corridor between the two regions.
For his part, Kuantyrov reiterated Kazakhstan's strong commitment to bolstering economic ties with Morocco, praising the launch of the Business Council as a concrete tool to promote investments, industrial partnerships, and trade exchanges between enterprises from both countries.
The meeting proceeded with presentations by Idriss Benamr, the Moroccan head of the Moroccan-Kazakh Business Council, and Murad Karimsakov, the Kazakh head of the council and President of the International Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan. They outlined the priorities of the new economic cooperation platform.
This inaugural session showcased presentations from Moroccan and Kazakh companies focusing on various sectors, including information technology, finance, food industries, port infrastructure, telecommunications, and investment. Subsequently, participants engaged in bilateral meetings aimed at identifying concrete avenues for joint collaboration.
In conclusion, the CGEM reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening economic partnerships with Central Asian markets through this Business Council, creating new opportunities for trade and investment that benefit Moroccan enterprises and contribute to shared economic growth, job creation, and added value.
