Celebrating Young Readers: The La Cigogne Volubile Festival
From June 8 to 13, 2026, the French Institute of Morocco will host the 14th edition of the La Cigogne Volubile Youth Book Festival, a vibrant celebration dedicated to young readers aged between 4 and 12 years. This year's festival embraces the theme 'Emotion and Inclusion,' aligning seamlessly with the 2025-2026 cultural season that focuses on contemporary youth under the banner 'Youth J-Lioum.' The festival aims to foster a love for reading among children while embracing themes of emotional intelligence and inclusivity.
The festivities will unfold across ten cities in Morocco, including Meknès, Fès, Oujda, El Jadida, Agadir, Essaouira, Marrakech, Kénitra, Tanger, and Tétouan. Access to all events is free, welcoming families, schools, and cultural professionals alike. This initiative underscores the festival's commitment to making literature accessible and enjoyable for all young audiences.
Engaging Activities and Notable Guests
A lineup of twelve acclaimed French authors and illustrators will participate in the festival, including notable figures such as Rudy Martel, Chloé Fraser, and Astrid Desbordes. These literary talents will engage with attendees through book signings, workshops, and storytelling sessions in collaboration with local schools and associations. The festival promises a rich program featuring artistic and cultural activities, including the exhibition 'Lune' by Chloé Fraser and the immersive digital experiences that incorporate virtual reality and animation film screenings. Noteworthy films like 'L’Odyssée de Choum' and 'Calamity, A Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary' will also be showcased, alongside open debates addressing the challenges and importance of youth literature.
This edition of the festival is particularly significant as it coincides with the inaugural national reading competition in French, co-organized by the French Institute of Morocco and the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports. This endeavor aims to enhance literacy and foster a deeper appreciation for reading among Moroccan youth.
