Revolutionizing Transportation Infrastructure in Morocco
The new design for the expansion of the Marrakech-Gueliz train station has been unveiled, marking a significant step forward in Morocco's ambition to enhance its railway infrastructure. This development aims to establish the red city as a key strategic hub in the national railway network, particularly in anticipation of the high-speed train and the anticipated increase in passenger traffic in the coming years.
The design showcases a modern station that beautifully marries Moroccan heritage with contemporary architectural principles. Spanning an impressive 12,000 square meters, the station will feature expansive, open spaces complemented by an innovative architectural roof. It will also include commercial and service facilities that align with international standards, ensuring a more comfortable and streamlined travel experience for passengers.
Enhancements and Modern Facilities
The expansion project includes the construction of 12 dedicated railway tracks designed to accommodate a variety of train services, including the high-speed train (LGV), Atlas trains, and regional express trains (RER). Additionally, the project will introduce eight modern platforms, which will significantly increase the station's capacity and improve the management of train and passenger traffic.
Moreover, the project entails a comprehensive renovation of both the internal and external spaces of the station. This renovation will feature modern waiting areas, shopping zones, restaurants, cafes, and parking facilities. Accessibility for individuals with disabilities will also be prioritized, ensuring that the station meets contemporary standards for major transportation hubs.
This expansion is part of the National Office of Railways' strategy to modernize the major stations across the kingdom and support railway expansion projects, particularly the extension of the high-speed train line to Marrakech. This initiative is part of a broader vision to promote sustainable mobility and bolster the economic and tourism dynamics that the city is experiencing.
Once the expansion work is completed, the Marrakech-Gueliz station is expected to become a new urban gateway for the city, providing a modern railway interface that meets the growing demands of travelers. This is particularly significant as Morocco prepares to host major international events, including the 2030 World Cup.
Through this project, Marrakech continues to strengthen its position as a national economic and tourist hub, supported by modern infrastructure that aligns with the significant transformations occurring in the transportation sector. This endeavor underscores Morocco's vision of building an advanced railway network that connects various regions of the kingdom with the highest quality and efficiency standards.
