Aguilar's troubles began shortly after her relocation to Agadir in March, where she had secured a performance opportunity. During one of her shows, she suffered a severe injury when she accidentally stepped on a burning coal, leading to the disintegration of two lumbar discs, L5 and S1, which necessitated medical interventions including surgery. Despite her injury, the agency that employed her failed to provide any support or compensation, leaving her in a dire financial situation.
In her quest for assistance, she met a man who falsely presented himself as a healthcare professional, only to exploit her trust and finances under the guise of familial emergencies. This relationship escalated into violent encounters, culminating in financial losses amounting to approximately 4,000 euros, which she spent on rent and medical expenses. Aguilar recounted a particularly harrowing incident where her refusal to engage in unprotected relations led to physical assault, with her aggressor asserting that such behavior was commonplace in Morocco.
After reporting the abuse to local authorities and obtaining a restraining order, Aguilar faced further danger when her assailant violated the order just days later, forcing her to relocate to ensure her safety. Currently, due to her injury and the bureaucratic hurdles presented by the Argentine embassy, she is unable to earn an income and is desperate to raise approximately three million pesos to fund her return flight to Neuquén, where she wishes to reunite with her father.
Aguilar's plight serves as a sobering reminder of the risks faced by expatriates, particularly women, in foreign countries. "I don't want to be just another statistic.
