Desperate Call for Assistance from Fès-Meknès Sports Teams
Sports associations and organizations operating across various provinces within the Fès-Meknès region have issued an urgent appeal to Khalid Ait Taleb, the region's wali (governor) and the head of the Fès district, seeking immediate and decisive intervention to rescue them from the severe financial crises they are facing. This call aims to address the dire conditions of local sports facilities and the inadequate infrastructure that currently hampers football practices.
On June 19, a coalition of 20 football teams, affiliated with the regional football league of Fès-Meknès, reiterated their official correspondence directed to the wali's office, emphasizing the necessity for an urgent communication meeting to discuss a series of critical strategic issues. Foremost among these concerns is the lack of annual grants from official bodies and elected councils, which has left these teams in a precarious financial situation.
The affected clubs articulated in their memorandum that this organized effort follows a previous request submitted on December 5, which sought a meeting with local authorities, but unfortunately went unanswered. They expressed their frustration over the numerous managerial challenges and accumulating financial problems that threaten the very existence of these clubs within the national sports landscape. Without the intervention of the regional authority, they fear complete dissolution from the sports scene.
In addition to the financial support crisis, the correspondence stressed the urgent need to address the deteriorating state of sports facilities and fields, which are no longer suitable for hosting matches and training sessions. Furthermore, they called for the activation of partnership and cooperation mechanisms between the league and local economic and elected institutions. These teams are hopeful that their renewed request will receive a positive and swift response from Wali Ait Taleb, aiming to rejuvenate the sports sector in the region and protect young talents from being lost to this ongoing crisis.
