Casablanca's Ambitious Budget for 2027
In a significant move aimed at enhancing municipal services and infrastructure, the Council of the city of Casablanca approved a budget of approximately 5.3 billion dirhams for the fiscal year 2027. This budget marks a substantial increase from the 3.5 billion dirhams allocated in 2021, reflecting the city's commitment to progressive financial planning and development. The decision was made during the second session of the ordinary October meeting, where elected officials reviewed and voted on 65 points, addressing crucial financial and land management issues, as well as the administration of community sports facilities and parking services.
Growth in Financial Planning and Community Services
Mayor Nabila Rmili highlighted the strategic approach taken in formulating the budget, emphasizing that it was developed with a focus on expenditure planning. The budget is designed not only to meet the financial obligations of the municipality but also to support ongoing development projects aimed at improving the quality of life for residents. This increased funding is expected to facilitate numerous development initiatives, particularly in areas such as public cleanliness and infrastructure enhancement.
Among the budgetary allocations, operational expenses are projected to reach nearly 4.7 billion dirhams, which encompass salaries for municipal employees, debt servicing, and funding for local districts and development companies. The municipality has also underscored the importance of meeting its financial commitments to avoid accumulating debts related to essential services such as water, electricity, and public lighting.
In addition, the budget allocates about 800 million dirhams specifically for equipment procurement, a decision that stems from a concerted effort to rationalize spending. The mayor anticipates a considerable budget surplus by the end of 2026, which will be instrumental in fulfilling commitments related to various agreements and scheduled projects, ensuring their seamless execution. This budget is particularly significant as it represents the final year of the current municipal council's mandate, set to conclude in 2027.
