Kawkab Marrakech: Renewed Interest and Membership Reforms in Morocco's Iconic Football Club

The Kawkab Marrakech Football Club (KACM), a cherished institution in the heart of Morocco, particularly in the vibrant city of Marrakech, is witnessing a resurgence of interest as former members return and new applicants emerge from various sectors including economics, law, and politics. Notably, a British couple, enamored by the beauty of Marrakech and their affiliation with this iconic club, has also submitted their membership application, highlighting the club's enduring appeal.

This revitalization is a promising sign, illustrating that KACM is more than just a football club; it is a deeply rooted institution within the history and emotional fabric of Marrakech. However, for this growing interest to translate into meaningful and lasting commitment, it is essential that the quality of participation in the club’s activities reflects the enthusiasm of its supporters. The management is keenly aware of this and aims to enhance membership regulations to ensure a more engaged and responsible membership base.

One of the significant changes includes the abolition of the 'guarantee checks' system, which previously allowed third parties to pay membership fees on behalf of certain members. This move indicates a determined effort to clean up the membership processes. Now, each prospective member, whether new or returning, is required to personally pay the membership fee of 10,000 dirhams through a deposit into the club's official bank account and submit the necessary administrative documents.

The objective is clear: to hold members accountable, ensure payment traceability, and minimize practices that could encourage influence during general assemblies. Nonetheless, a critical question remains: how can the system be reformed without making membership financially prohibitive for dedicated supporters who wish to invest in their club?

Last season, KACM boasted 84 members, and the definitive results from the current membership drive will offer insight into the evolution of its roster. However, success should not be measured solely by numbers. It is equally dependent on members’ independence, freedom of expression, and active participation in decisions that shape the club's future.

This transformation is particularly significant as Kawkab considers transitioning to a sports company status, a shift that necessitates strong legal foundations, rigorous financial management, and clearly defined governance. Thus, the reform of membership processes is a crucial first step, yet it alone will not suffice. The true measure of change will be evident over time through transparency, accountability, and trust. The reconstruction of KACM transcends the football pitch; it hinges on the club's ability to empower its members as genuine stakeholders in its future.
