Consumer Price Index Decline in Al Hoceima, Tetouan, and Agadir

Significant Drop in Consumer Prices Across Major Moroccan Cities

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) experienced a notable decline in July 2026 across the cities of Al Hoceima, Tetouan, and Agadir, primarily driven by a decrease in food prices. In Al Hoceima, the CPI dropped by 0.6% compared to June and saw a year-on-year decrease of 1.5%. This monthly drop can be attributed to a significant reduction of 1.2% in food prices, particularly highlighted by a 4.9% decrease in fruit prices, a 2.4% decline in vegetable prices, and a 0.6% drop in fish and seafood prices.

Furthermore, over the past year, food prices have decreased by 4.5%, largely influenced by a staggering 27.6% reduction in the prices of oils and fats, a 7.6% decrease in the costs of milk, cheese, and eggs, and a 5.7% drop in vegetable prices. Conversely, non-food product prices have risen by 2.5%, indicating a mixed economic scenario.

City-Specific Trends and National Overview

In Tetouan, the CPI saw a decline of 0.7% in July compared to the previous month, with a slight annual increase of 0.1%. The reduction in food prices in Tetouan was marked by a 1.5% overall drop, largely due to a 7.1% decline in vegetable prices, a 4.4% decrease in fruit prices, and a 0.8% reduction in milk, cheese, and egg prices. Year-on-year, food prices in Tetouan decreased by 2.9%, while non-food items rose by 2.8%, including a notable 10.9% increase in education costs.

Agadir recorded the most significant monthly CPI decline among the three cities, with a decrease of 0.9%. This drop was the result of a 2.2% reduction in food prices, particularly driven by a 10.6% decrease in vegetable prices, a 7.6% decline in fish and seafood prices, and a 4.9% drop in fruit prices. However, when looking at the annual figures, Agadir's CPI remained stable, as a 3.3% decline in food prices was offset by a 2.5% increase in non-food product prices.

On a national level, the Consumer Price Index recorded a decrease of 1% in July 2026 compared to the previous month, reflecting the broader economic trends affecting consumer purchasing power across Morocco.
