In a significant development for the Moroccan retail landscape, Intersport, a leading global sports retail giant, is set to make a robust entry into Morocco's market once again, twelve years after its initial foray with the legendary athlete Hicham El Guerrouj. This time, the company has forged a partnership with Moncef Belkhayat's H&S Group, planning to open new stores starting in 2027, with Casablanca as the inaugural location. The collaboration aims to expand Intersport's presence across the nation, with ambitious growth plans targeting major cities like Marrakech, Rabat, Tangier, and Agadir by 2032.
Intersport has recently inked an agreement with One Retail, a subsidiary of the H&S Group, which is already known for operating various international brands including Monoprix and Franprix. The initial store opening is set for the first half of 2027, specifically on Boulevard Al Massira in Casablanca, covering an impressive area of 1,200 square meters. This strategic move marks a revival of Intersport's presence in Morocco, which began in October 2014 when the iconic middle-distance runner, Hicham El Guerrouj, opened the first Intersport store in Casablanca alongside a plan for multiple retail locations across the country.
Now, under the leadership of Moncef Belkhayat, who previously served as Morocco's Minister of Youth and Sports, One Retail will manage the development, logistics, and operations for the Intersport stores. This partnership promises to enhance the retail experience for Moroccan consumers, offering a wide range of sports equipment, apparel, and footwear from renowned brands such as Nike, Adidas, Puma, Asics, Under Armour, and The North Face, as well as exclusive collections like McKinley and Energetics.
Looking ahead, Intersport aims to leverage its extensive experience, having more than 5,260 stores in 40 countries and generating sales of €14.1 billion in 2025. Meanwhile, One Retail currently operates 250 stores across 47 cities in Morocco, with aspirations to expand its multi-brand network to 400 locations by 2027. This expansion signifies a strong commitment to enhancing the sports retail sector in Morocco, catering to the growing demand for quality sports merchandise.
