Morocco Initiates a 2.1 Million Dirham Project for Infrastructure Development

Morocco Launches Major Infrastructure Initiative

In a significant move towards enhancing its hydraulic infrastructure, Morocco has launched a project valued at 2.1 million dirhams, which encompasses the development of six dams, a dike, and two canals. This initiative is strategically spread across the regions of Azilal, Beni Mellal, Settat, and Safi, incorporating crucial sites such as Al-Massira, Agadir Bouachiba, Moulay Hassan-Iᵉʳ, Sidi Driss, Ahmed El Hansali, and Timi N’outine. Moreover, the coastal region will also see the implementation of the Safi dike, along with the Rocade and upstream canals, further strengthening the area’s water management capabilities.

This comprehensive program aims to integrate several key hydraulic infrastructures within the Oum-Er-Rbia basin. The planned interventions will focus on civil engineering works related to the aforementioned dams, namely Al Massira, Ahmed El Hansali, Moulay Hassan-Iᵉʳ, Sidi Driss, Timi N’outine, and Agadir Bouachiba. The Safi area will not only feature a dike but also two water transfer axes, ensuring a robust infrastructure that supports both retention and protective works, as well as the necessary hydraulic circulation infrastructures. This extensive geographical project spans from the heart of the country to the Atlantic coast.

By covering four provinces under a single procurement process, the initiative signifies an efficient approach to infrastructure development. The budget dedicated to this project stands at 2.1 million dirhams, with the awarding of contracts anticipated following the submission deadline at the end of September, marking a pivotal step in Morocco’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its water management systems.
