Resolution of Chabab Al Massira Leadership Conflict in Laâyoune, Morocco

End of a Longstanding Dispute in Laâyoune's Chabab Al Massira Football Club

The protracted conflict regarding the presidency of Chabab Al Massira, a prominent football club in Laâyoune, Morocco, has finally reached a resolution after more than two years of legal battles and intense rivalry. Ali Baida has been granted the definitive receipt from local authorities, solidifying his position as the legitimate president of the club. This development effectively dissolves the management committee previously led by Hamdi Ould Errachid, who held the position during the interim period. The situation has been a focal point of contention between the factions of Ould Errachid, who serves as the president of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, and Hassan Derham, a businessman and parliament member.

According to reports from Al Akhbar, the definitive receipt confirms Baida’s role and nullifies the need for the interim management committee that was presiding over club affairs. This receipt, which affirms the submission of the football association’s documentation, was one of the core issues in the dispute, as local authorities had previously withheld this important document from Baida. In response to this non-compliance, Baida sought judicial intervention, arguing that the local authorities were failing to execute the court's decisions regarding his presidency. Additionally, the club's governing body lodged a complaint against the local authority for its inaction.

The local authorities found themselves in a precarious position after having issued a temporary receipt to Ould Errachid's interim committee, despite the National Football League granting Baida's governing body the right to operate. In a significant ruling, the Administrative Court of Appeal in Agadir supported Baida's claims, effectively bringing an end to the prolonged dispute over the legitimacy of his presidency at Chabab Al Massira.

The rivalry between the two camps was particularly pronounced during the National Football League's general assembly held in March 2025 at the National Football Museum in Salé. The Laâyoune club was represented by two opposing figures: Baida attended on behalf of the club's governing body, with Derham's delegation, while Ould Errachid participated as the chair of the interim management committee. The situation escalated when the local authorities in Laâyoune refused to acknowledge the legal documents submitted by the newly elected governing body of the club, despite the official filing occurring shortly after their election on September 27, 2024, during the club's general assembly for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 seasons.

This resolution marks a significant turning point for Chabab Al Massira, allowing it to move forward and focus on its sporting objectives without the burden of internal conflict. The club's supporters and stakeholders are hopeful that this new leadership will bring stability and success to the team in the future.
