Fraudulent Activities Uncovered in Casablanca
In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, two young men aged 23 and 28 were apprehended on Saturday, October 17, in Casablanca by the judicial police brigade from the Aïn Sebaâ-Hay Mohammadi district. According to judicial sources, these individuals are suspected of various serious offenses, including unauthorized access to automated data processing systems, international call hacking, fraud, and electronic deception.
Initial investigations have revealed that the suspects employed sophisticated equipment and computer systems to infiltrate national telecommunications networks. They were reportedly converting international calls into local communications, profiting from the price differences. Furthermore, they are believed to have orchestrated a large-scale scam that involved sending fraudulent text messages impersonating the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA). These messages falsely claimed that the recipients had committed traffic violations and demanded payments through a fraudulent electronic portal that closely resembled the official agency's website.
Searches conducted at their residences in Casablanca and Settat led to the seizure of numerous SIM cards from national operators, recharge cards, a laptop computer, devices intended to receive and reroute internet traffic, as well as various other electronic storage media. The two suspects are currently in police custody and have been placed at the disposal of the National Judicial Police Brigade, which is overseeing the ongoing investigation. Authorities are working to uncover any potential national and international connections related to this criminal network.
