Significant Arrival at Casablanca Port
Last Monday, the port of Casablanca welcomed the KRASZEWSKI vessel at the multi-purpose terminal managed by Somaport, which transported an enormous gas turbine along with an alternator intended for a critical national project within the energy sector. According to a statement from the National Ports Agency, this large-scale handling operation was conducted on behalf of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water and is part of the construction of a future combined-cycle power plant at the Al Wahda dam.
This operation underscores the capability of the Casablanca port to manage complex industrial cargoes while adhering to stringent port safety standards. The arrival of the KRASZEWSKI marks a significant strategic operation, representing a crucial step in the transportation of exceptionally large industrial equipment. The gas turbine and alternator, weighing 495 and 405 tons respectively, are among the heaviest cargoes ever received at this port.
Specialized heavy-lifting equipment was employed for the handling of these assets, necessitating meticulous coordination among port teams, the shipowner, the shipping agent, and the logistics operator responsible for the project. This successful operation reiterates Casablanca's position as one of Africa’s best-equipped port infrastructures for handling heavy industrial shipments.
The statement further emphasizes that the Somaport multi-purpose terminal has demonstrated its readiness and technical expertise, both essential assets for executing such strategic logistical operations. The received equipment is destined for a combined-cycle power plant aimed at enhancing the country's electricity production capacity and supporting Morocco's energy transition. By facilitating the transport of these strategic components, the Casablanca port solidifies its role as a major gateway for large industrial and energy projects in Morocco.
