easyJet Expands to Africa: New Base in Marrakech and Six Exciting Routes

easyJet's First African Base in Marrakech

In a significant expansion move, easyJet has officially launched its inaugural base in Africa, strategically located in Marrakech. This new facility is equipped with three permanently stationed aircraft, allowing the airline to offer an impressive four million seats in its first year of operation. This ambitious project, developed in collaboration with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (MNTO), positions easyJet as the second-largest operator at Marrakech-Menara Airport, enhancing travel connectivity in the region.

New Routes and Economic Impact

The establishment of the Marrakech base has also led to the introduction of six new international routes aimed at bolstering tourism and connectivity to Europe. Flights from Marrakech to major destinations such as Prague, Newcastle, and Zurich will commence in the upcoming winter season, each operating twice weekly. Additionally, the new routes from Nantes to Essaouira, as well as Bordeaux and Birmingham to Agadir, are set to go on sale in the coming weeks. Existing seasonal services from Hamburg, Lille, and Strasbourg will now operate year-round, further increasing options for travelers.

The Geneva to Tangier route has already launched, featuring two weekly flights that began on March 30. With these enhancements, easyJet's network in Morocco has expanded to a total of 58 routes, with 30 of those operated from its Marrakech hub. The project has also created approximately 100 direct jobs, signifying a positive impact on the local economy and tourism sector. Kenton Jarvis, easyJet's CEO, emphasized the strategic importance of this base, celebrating the milestone of transporting 20 million passengers over the past two decades of operations in Morocco. This expansion not only aims to enhance travel opportunities for customers but also strives to contribute significantly to the local economy through tourism and job creation.
