Impending Heatwave and Thunderstorms Forecasted in Morocco
The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) in Morocco has issued a weather alert indicating that a significant heatwave, coupled with thunderstorms featuring hail and strong wind gusts, is expected from Wednesday through Friday. During this period, temperatures are anticipated to soar between 42°C and 45°C, affecting several provinces including Kénitra, Aousserd, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, Errachidia, Zagora, Marrakech, Rehamna, Sidi Slimane, Khémisset, Ouezzane, Larache, Taounate, Moulay Yacoub, Fès, Sidi Kacem, Meknès, Fquih Ben Salah, El Kelaâ des Sraghna, and Béni Mellal. This alert has been categorized under an orange vigilance level, indicating the potential for severe weather conditions.
Thunderstorm Activity and Rainfall Expectations
In addition to the extreme heat, the DGM has warned of thunderstorms which are predicted to bring rainfall ranging from 25 to 40 mm. These storms are expected to occur specifically in the province of Aousserd, starting from Wednesday at 2 PM until Thursday at 2 AM. Furthermore, other regions including Settat, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Taroudant, Khouribga, Khénifra, Chichaoua, and Salé will also experience high temperatures, ranging between 38°C and 42°C during the same timeframe. Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety amidst these forecasted weather conditions.
