Moroccan Experts Prioritize Cyber Risk Above AI in Global Survey
In a significant revelation from AXA's 13th Future Risks Report, which was conducted in collaboration with Ipsos, Moroccan experts have identified cyber risk as their primary concern, surpassing artificial intelligence (AI) and big data. This finding marks a pivotal shift, as for the first time in global assessments, AI and big data have been recognized as the leading risks, according to the same report. The survey, which spanned from May 14 to June 24, included responses from a total of 28,345 individuals, comprising 4,345 experts across 62 countries as well as 24,000 members of the public from 19 nations.
In the global context, the report indicates that AI and big data have overtaken climate change, which has now dropped to second place in terms of perceived risk. Following these are concerns related to geopolitical instability, cyber threats, and energy risks. However, the perspective shifts when focusing specifically on Moroccan experts, who have placed cyber risks at the forefront of their concerns, followed by AI and big data in second place, and climate change in third. Notably, issues such as the future of work, pandemics, and demographic changes also featured prominently in their top ten list of risks, while social fragmentation and resource scarcity were not highlighted.
Conversely, the general public in Morocco displayed a different viewpoint. They ranked pandemics and infectious diseases as their top concern, followed closely by climate change, chronic diseases, and AI. This divergence in priorities signifies a broader discourse on how different sectors of society perceive risks in our rapidly evolving world.
In terms of preparedness for potential crises, a survey revealed that approximately 53% of Moroccans feel either well or fairly well-equipped to handle a major crisis, while 44% believe they are not adequately prepared. Interestingly, a substantial 85% of participants expressed that their primary worries could be alleviated to some extent, indicating a glimmer of optimism amidst the prevailing concerns.
