Morocco Achieves Historic 7th Place in FIFA World Ranking

Morocco's Football Team Reaches Historic Milestone

The Moroccan national football team, known as the "Lions of the Atlas," has made history by securing the 7th position in the latest FIFA World Rankings, a first for the nation. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced this remarkable achievement following the recent update of the FIFA rankings, which was released on a Wednesday. This ranking marks the highest position ever attained by the Moroccan team, showcasing the substantial progress made in Moroccan football over recent years.

In its announcement, the FRMF emphasized that this ranking reflects Morocco's significant advancements on the international football stage, attributing this success to the team's positive results in various competitions. With a total of 1,756.94 points, Morocco remains the leading African nation in the rankings, outpacing other contenders such as Senegal, which is ranked 14th, Nigeria at 25th, Algeria at 28th, and Egypt at 29th.

Morocco Leads the Arab Football Scene

In addition to its continental dominance, Morocco also leads the Arab nations in the FIFA rankings, standing ahead of Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia (ranked 46th), and Qatar (ranked 55th). The current top six countries in the global standings include France, Spain, Argentina, England, Portugal, and Brazil. As the Moroccan team prepares for its upcoming friendly match against Norway on June 7 at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, USA, anticipation builds as they gear up for the 2026 World Cup, set to kick off on June 11. Morocco's World Cup journey will commence on June 14 against Brazil in Group C, which also features Scotland and Haiti.
