Historic Surge in Air Travel at Moroccan Airports
The National Airports Office of Morocco has reported a remarkable increase in air traffic during the summer season of 2026, with several airports in the country reaching unprecedented levels of passenger reception. This surge can be attributed to the growing appeal of Morocco as a travel destination and the strengthening of its international air connections. Notably, Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport recorded a historic milestone by accommodating 46,439 passengers within a single 24-hour period during the first weekend of August.
This upward trend in passenger numbers was also evident at other national airports. Marrakech Menara Airport surpassed 30,000 passengers in one day, while Rabat-Salé Airport welcomed 9,226 travelers, and Agadir Al Massira Airport recorded 11,973 passengers during peak days. Additionally, both Dakhla and Tetouan airports experienced significant increases in air traffic, with growth rates of 45.2% and 36.14%, respectively, during peak travel times.
According to the National Airports Office, these increases reflect a structural growth trend, particularly following the record-breaking achievement of over 36.3 million passengers in national air traffic during 2025. This demonstrates the crucial role that airports play in enhancing Morocco's accessibility and attractiveness as a tourist destination.
The office emphasized that the ability to accommodate the increasing number of passengers while maintaining high operational quality is a key focus of the "Airports 2030" strategy. This initiative aims to expand airport capacities, modernize infrastructure, digitize services, improve passenger flows, and adapt networks for future growth.
This impressive performance is supported by a collective effort among various stakeholders in the airport ecosystem. "Moroccan Airports" is collaborating with several partners, including the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the General Directorate of National Security, Customs and Indirect Taxes, the Royal Gendarmerie, and Royal Air Maroc, to streamline operations and manage peak passenger periods effectively.
Through these efforts, Moroccan Airports continues to adapt to the evolving landscape of air travel, driven by the ambition to enhance the sustainable utilization of airport capacities, accelerate air connectivity, and position airport performance as a pivotal factor in bolstering Morocco's international appeal.
