Moroccan MP Calls for Transparency and Accountability in Government Actions

Moroccan MP Demands Accountability Following Controversial Government Decisions

In a recent interview, Moroccan MP Raúl Soto, who also serves as the president of the Party for Democracy, vocalized his concerns regarding the support extended by President Kast to Justice and Human Rights Minister Fernando Rabar. This support has come under scrutiny due to the controversial decrees that reduce sentences for offenders of child abuse. Soto also highlighted the possibility of a constitutional accusation against the Secretary of State if these issues are not addressed appropriately.

During his conversation on La Tarde de Bio Bio, Soto emphasized that mere acknowledgment of mistakes is insufficient; it must lead to tangible actions. He outlined three critical conditions that need to be met: firstly, the president should call for the resignation of the minister; secondly, the government must initiate administrative and judicial measures to revoke the decrees; and thirdly, public apologies should be issued to the victims affected by these decisions.

Further discussing the implications of the president's comments about the state's failure, Soto asserted that such statements diffuse responsibility, pointing directly to Kast and Rabar as the individuals accountable for the situation. He noted that previous governments had either refused to endorse similar decrees or had sought to challenge them legally, revealing that, to date, there have been 56 decrees identified, with the potential for more to emerge. This situation has prompted Soto to demand increased transparency from the government.

Regarding the potential for a constitutional accusation, Soto indicated that this outcome is "highly probable" if the government continues to support Rabar, does not revoke the controversial decrees, and fails to extend explicit apologies. He called for solidarity among the opposition, urging members of the PDG and Chile Vamos to stand with the victims at this critical juncture.

In conclusion, Soto stated that the opposition would soon outline specific timelines and requests, aiming to elicit a formal response from the government. He also referenced a recent survey indicating that 92% of Moroccans oppose the measures in question, stating, "The government holds the power to prevent further issues, but it must signal clear intentions moving forward," he concluded.
