Morocco: A Harmonious Blend of Tradition and Modernity, Says Ambassador Younes Dirhoussi

Celebrating Diplomatic Milestones in Saint Lucia

On October 3, the Moroccan Embassy in Saint Lucia celebrated a significant diplomatic and social reception at the ambassador’s residence in Cap Estate, marking a momentous occasion for engaging local social partners and commemorating the ambassador's 60th birthday. The event, organized under the auspices of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Saint Lucia, brought together Saint Lucian social partners, government representatives, and civil society members, emphasizing the importance of bilateral dialogue and cooperation between the two nations.

Strengthening Ties Through Cooperation and Shared Values

Ambassador Younes Dirhoussi, who took up his role in April 2025, expressed his excitement about representing Morocco in Saint Lucia. He highlighted the longstanding relationship between Morocco and Saint Lucia, which dates back to 1988. This partnership has fostered collaboration in various fields, including higher education scholarships, technical assistance, agriculture, and South-South diplomatic cooperation. The Moroccan Embassy not only serves Saint Lucia but also acts as a hub for several other Caribbean nations, including the OECS countries, Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago, showcasing Morocco's commitment to regional development.

Reflecting on the historical ties between the two countries, Ambassador Dirhoussi stated, "Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1988, Saint Lucia and Morocco have maintained excellent relations, both politically and in terms of cooperation." He emphasized Morocco's role as a significant player in the South-South initiative, providing at least 20 scholarships annually to Saint Lucian students and assisting in various sectors such as agriculture and education.

Furthermore, the ambassador spoke of Morocco's unique identity, where the country embodies elements of both African roots and European modernity. He described Morocco as a tolerant nation, a mosaic of diverse populations united under one flag, with the King as a symbol of national unity. As the Head of State, the King plays a crucial role in fostering a cohesive national identity while the Executive Head of Government manages political affairs independently.

Looking ahead, Ambassador Dirhoussi is optimistic about enhancing social and diplomatic relations with Saint Lucia, with plans to implement more social and infrastructural programs that will strengthen the bonds between the two nations.
