Morocco's Agricultural Sector Sees Remarkable 21.2% Growth in Value Added

Exceptional Growth in Morocco's Agricultural Sector

The agricultural sector in Morocco has showcased a remarkable performance, with a 21.2% increase in value added during the second quarter of 2026. This growth follows an 18.4% rise in the previous quarter, resulting in an impressive average growth rate of 19.8% for the first half of the year, compared to just 8.2% during the same period last year. This information is detailed in the economic note published in October.

The surge in value can be attributed to the favorable rainfall conditions experienced during the 2025-2026 agricultural campaign. Cumulative precipitation reached 571 mm, marking an increase of 82% from the previous campaign and 43% above the average of the past 30 years. This abundance of water has significantly enhanced crop yields across the country.

Production estimates for the three main cereals indicate a total output of nearly 90 million quintals, representing a dramatic year-on-year increase of 110%. This includes approximately 43 million quintals of soft wheat, 21 million quintals of durum wheat, and 26 million quintals of barley. Additionally, the area cultivated with cereals has expanded to 3.9 million hectares, up from 2.6 million hectares in the previous campaign, reflecting a growth of 46%.

Moreover, the rainfall has also positively impacted national water resources. As of October 19, 2026, reservoir levels in dams reached 11.2 billion cubic meters, which is a staggering 110% increase compared to the previous year. The filling rate of these reservoirs has risen to 65.9%, a significant improvement from 31.8% at the same time last year.

On the trade front, Morocco's agricultural and agri-food exports have accelerated their growth during the initial months of the third quarter of 2026, achieving a growth rate of 20.2%. This is a notable increase from 11.5% in the second quarter and just 1% in the first quarter. By the end of August 2026, exports had grown by 8.3% compared to 4.6% the previous year, largely fueled by a 13.6% rise in food industry exports and a 3.6% increase in exports from agriculture, forestry, and hunting sectors.
