Krakow Airport Set for Winter Flight Schedule with 140 Connections to 37 Countries

Krakow Airport's Winter Schedule Unveiled

This Sunday marks the launch of the winter flight schedule at Krakow Airport, Poland, with an impressive offering of 140 connections spanning 37 countries. This winter, travelers will have access to flights servicing 97 cities and 106 airports, provided by a total of 25 airlines. In contrast, the outgoing summer schedule featured 173 connections to 39 countries, courtesy of 30 airlines. This transition highlights the airport's commitment to facilitating travel, even amidst challenges faced by the aviation industry.

Growing Traffic Despite Fuel Costs

According to the airport's president, Lukasz Strutyński, the winter schedule maintains the same number of connections as the previous winter season, albeit with three additional countries represented this year. He noted, "Given the rising fuel prices, this winter poses significant challenges for the entire aviation sector. Many airports across Europe are preparing for declines in passenger traffic. However, Krakow Airport is in a fortunate position to anticipate growth. While the results may not surpass last year's impressive figures—where passenger traffic surged by over ten percent—we expect to improve our record slightly." This optimistic outlook is bolstered by the decision of some carriers to extend popular summer routes into the winter season, including destinations such as Dubrovnik, Budapest, and Kuwait. However, LOT Polish Airlines has decided to suspend several newly introduced summer routes like Rome, Barcelona, and Madrid for the winter.

The new winter network at Krakow Airport offers a diverse array of travel options, catering to short city breaks, exploration of European landmarks, sunny getaways, and active winter sports vacations. The airport's press office emphasizes that this extensive range of connections allows passengers to tailor their travel plans according to their preferences, ensuring a winter getaway that suits every type of traveler.

In line with enhancing travel comfort, Krakow Airport is also implementing significant improvements. The airport's commercial director, Pawel Galiak, mentioned that the completion of renovations to restroom facilities has increased the number of sanitary points available to travelers. Additionally, more passport control desks will be available, which is particularly important in light of the new Entry/Exit System being introduced at European airports. As part of its winter preparations, the airport is also investing in new security equipment, including body scanners, with the first device currently undergoing testing.

Moreover, Strutyński highlighted the airport's major winter upgrade: the ILS II CAT system. The modernization of the runway has been completed, and while formalities remain, he expresses optimism that the airport will receive certification in the first quarter of next year, significantly reducing disruptions caused by fog.
