Historic Growth in Air Travel at Moroccan Airports
During the summer of 2026, Moroccan airports reached unprecedented levels of air traffic, reflecting a significant upward trend in the sector. This surge in passenger numbers highlights Morocco's increasing appeal as a travel destination, bolstered by enhanced international flight connections. The first weekend of August saw record-breaking figures across various airports in the country, with Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca welcoming an astonishing 46,439 travelers within just 24 hours—a milestone that underscores the ongoing rise in passenger traffic.
This positive trend extended to other national airports as well, with Marrakech Menara Airport surpassing 30,000 passengers in a single day. Rabat-Salé Airport recorded 9,226 arrivals in one day, while Agadir Al Massira Airport experienced a peak of 11,973 travelers. Additionally, Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport saw 13,309 passengers during one of the busiest days. Notably, airports in Dakhla and Tetouan reported impressive growth rates of 36.14% and 45.2%, respectively, during the height of the summer season, indicating that the growth trend is broadening across the national airport network.
The remarkable increase in passenger traffic comes in the wake of a structural growth trend, as the volume of national air traffic exceeded the record level of 36.3 million passengers in 2025. This momentum continues to accelerate, affirming the vital role of airports in enhancing Morocco's openness and attractiveness as a destination. However, this increasing demand poses challenges in maintaining operational quality while simultaneously expanding airport capacity, a challenge that aligns with the objectives of the "Airports 2030" strategy. This strategy aims to upgrade infrastructure, expand capacity, digitize services, and improve passenger pathways.
The success of Moroccan airports is also attributed to the collaboration among various stakeholders in the aviation ecosystem. During peak periods, the airports coordinate efforts with the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the National Police Directorate, Customs and Indirect Taxes, the Royal Gendarmerie, and Royal Air Maroc, among others, to ensure smooth operations and passenger experiences.
As Moroccan airports continue to adapt to the rapidly changing landscape of air travel, their focus remains on enhancing capacity, accelerating flight connections, and improving performance, thereby supporting Morocco's growing international appeal.
