Severe Heat Wave and Thunderstorm Alerts Issued
The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an updated orange alert warning regarding an impending heat wave accompanied by thunderstorms and potential hailstorms across various regions of the kingdom. This weather phenomenon is expected to commence today, Thursday, and persist through Friday.
According to the forecasts, temperatures are anticipated to reach record highs between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius in several provinces, including Oued Ed-Dahab, Smara, Errachidia, Aousserd, Boujdour, Wazan, Larache, Taounate, Moulay Yacoub, Fes, Meknes, Fkih Ben Saleh, Beni Mellal, Khmissat, Rahamna, Marrakech, Qalaat Sraghna, Sidi Slimane, Sidi Kacem, Kenitra, Zagora, and Tata. Additionally, temperatures are expected to range from 38 to 42 degrees Celsius, with noticeable increases in the provinces of Youssoufia, Rabat, Salé, Khenifra, Taroudant, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, and Sidi Bennour.
In conjunction with the heat wave, the alert indicates that thunderstorms producing rainfall between 20 and 40 mm will occur, potentially coupled with hail and strong winds in the regions of Oued Ed-Dahab and Aousserd starting from 3 PM on Thursday until 6 AM on Friday. Thunderstorms are also expected in provinces such as Qalaat Sraghna, Al Haouz, Azilal, Chichaoua, Rahamna, and Marrakech, with rainfall expected to measure between 15 and 25 mm from 2 PM to 11 PM on Thursday.
The authorities urge citizens to exercise caution and avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours. It is crucial to stay hydrated by drinking adequate amounts of water and to remain vigilant while driving in areas experiencing thunderstorms and strong winds.
